*NOT CURRENTLY OFFERED*

Offering Craniosacral Therapy to Fort Saskatchewan, Strathcona County, Edmonton and area clients.

What Is It?

Craniosacral therapy is a noninvasive, light touch modality that works along the Central Nervous System to relax deep tensions, pain, and dysfunction within the body. It relieves compression in the bones of the head, sacrum and spinal column.

Conditions That Can Be Treated

Since Craniosacral therapy is such a gentle modality, it is known to be effective for clients of all ages and conditions. Some of these conditions are as follows:

  • Migraines and Headaches
  • Chronic Neck and Back Pain
  • Stress and Tension-Related Disorders
  • Motor-Coordination Impairments
  • Infant and Childhood Disorders
  • Pre-Natal and Post-Natal Discomfort
  • Spinal Cord Injuries
  • Post-Concussion Symptoms
  • Chronic Fatigue
  • Fibromyalgia
  • TMJ Syndrome
  • Scoliosis
  • Central Nervous Disorders
  • Learning Disabilities
  • Vision and Hearing Problems
  • ADD/ADHD
  • Anxiety
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Orthopedic Problems
  • And Many Other Conditions

How Is It Different From A Massage Therapy Treatment?

For a full craniosacral treatment, the client remains fully clothed, so no oil is used. The average session is preformed face up but can be done face down, semi seated or side lying if needed. One thing that is the same as massage therapy is that a full session is on average an hour long. The pressure used it vastly different, using a feather light touch with little to no manual movement performed by the therapist. All the work is taking place just beneath the skin.

What is to be expected?

Each session experience is different based on the client and the reason they are seeking craniosacral treatment. Some clients will be able to feel the subtle movement of the craniosacral rhythm, while others may just feel warmth or gentle pulsating in the area the therapist is working in. The craniosacral rhythm does not follow the pattern of respiratory or heart rate. It is completely separate and affects the body in a different way. In utilizing this rhythm, the therapist can follow stress patterns within the body and release them by working with the skull, spine, and sacrum, as well as the fluid like motion of the craniosacral rhythm. The therapist’s movements are subtle as well, not requiring a lot of pressure or movement in order to be effected.

Takeaway

Craniosacral Therapy may be able to provide relief for certain conditions and has strong evidence for supporting treatment for conditions like headaches. It may be a preferable option over prescription medications, since it has a low risk for side effects. Suitable for all ages!
